BeingArt

Founded in 2006 the beinArt International Surreal Art Collective non-profit online gallery evolved from the beinArt Underground Australian Collective. Their aim was to form a community of all the talented Surreal Artists, Sculptors & Toy Artists in Australia.

Unfortunately their shop and newsletter aren't operational but will hopefully be soon.

One of my favorite artists on my latest browse thought the site was Jeremy Geddes (jeremygeddesart.com). I greatly admire his oil work.

New York City Architecture

Taken from their website:
"This is New York's landmark historic Jewish neighborhood, which was once the world's largest Jewish community. It was here that the New York garment industry began. Today it is one of New York's favorite bargain beats, where serious shoppers find fantastic bargains."
This section of the nyc architecture website has many photos of the early 20th century.

in 2000 the neighborhood was designated a state and national historic district but much of it's history is slowly being altered with new stores, movie theatres and small shops. Visit this link, www.nyc-architecture.com/LES/LES.htm (scroll down), to learn more on this interesting New York neighborhood.

Justin Lacroix

Last night I went to see the Justin Lacroix band (www.justinlacroix) play a couple of acoustic sets at Billabong, an Australian pub in the Osborne village, in Winnipeg. They're a great live band and I encourage all of you to have a listen to the tracks offered on their website.

Justin has a few different websites if you wish to know more about the band.
I also noticed Justin's band has an artist profile on New Music Canada (visit site) and also have a myspace website (www.myspace.com/justinlacroix).

Little People

Little people - a tiny street project doesn't involve midgets, imps or leprechauns. It's a blog on tiny hand painted people left to fend for themselves in London England.

The 27 year old UK artist who came up with this idea calls himself slinkachu. No much information is given on his site.
It only take a few minutes to view the Little People photos(http://littlepeople.blogspot.com/). Be sure to check out his other blogs including Beautiful Vandalism and a World of Birds.
Happy surfing

Amy Dresser

There isn't too much information about Amy Dresser on her portfolio website. Her work as an illustrator and photo retoucher however is stunningly remarkable.

You may not realize it but you've seen Amy's work in ads from Alberto V05, Honda, Kodak, Sony and X Games to name a few. You've also seen Amy's photo manipulations in magazines such as Glamour, Hot Rod, Low Rider, Maxim, and Stuff Magazine where photos are crucial and must be perfect.

Give Amy Dresser's Website (www.amydresser.com) a good once over. Make sure to mouse over the photos to see the before and after shots. Simply stunning work.

Psyop

Psyop is a New York city based company with amazing work for famous brands such as Coca-Cola, Adidas, MTV, and EA Sports to name a few.

The sheer amount of quality content makes Psyop (www.psyop.tv/main.php) a worthwhile visit. I also enjoy the look and feel of their site. The pencil and pen writings are appeal to my sense of simple yet powerful design.

Tara McPherson

Another day of web surfing for inspiration and I, luckily, find Tara McPherson's web site. Instantly, I began clicking through all of her artwork. She's living the dream of being a painter, poster artist and freelance illustrator.

Tara's work includes advertising and editorial illustrations for many know companies such as Fanta and Spin Magazine. She's also quite renown for her numerous posters for rock bands such as Green Day, Modest Mouse and Death Cab For Cutie. Reading through her bio I also found out she has exhibited her paintings and prints in fine art galleries all over the world.Get this! She's also worked for Futurama during her college years.

I highly recommend you give Tara McPherson's intriguing website an in-depth look at www.taramcpherson.com.

Picking PDF's Apart in Illustrator

Finding a way to selectively add or remove items from a PDF seems to be quite the task. Using Acrobat Professional sometimes gives unwanted results. This little tip is extremely useful when you need to remove or add the item in vector format. This saved my butt when I threw away my original inDesign file by mistake.

Opening a PDF file in Illustrator is very simple. Open it like any Illustrator file. If your PDF contains multiple pages a little dialog box appears. Select the desired page and click OK.

Depending on the fonts installed on your computer you may get a missing font warning. If this happens either install the font (to keep the text formatting) or click OK to continue.
Retrieving the appropriate portion of the PDF may be a bit tricky. Depending on how the PDF was created you may have to ungroup (Object> Ungroup), release clipping masks (Object> Clipping Masks> Release), or release compound paths (Object> Compound Masks> Release). You may also have to do a combination of these operation a multitude of times.
